 What’s up with the Water Restrictions

A new water storage vault is being built.

   There are restrictions until the final stages are complete,

which should be the middle of November 2020

 WHAT CAN I BRING TO THE CITY BURN PILE?

BURNABLE WOOD ITEMS ONLY according to the State Health Dept.  Any furniture that is composed primarily of wood.  Any lumber scraps & plywood with hinges, nails, staples, etc. must be removed. No lumber with paint or staining of any kind.

NOT allowed:
- Mattresses (due to the metal springs and the toxic fumes from the materials contained in the mattress)

            -  Sofas and stuffed chairs—same reasons

           -   Tires, shingles, or anything with rubber or tar (more toxic smoke and fumes)

     - Any amount of metal connected to something burnable. All metal that is in the pile after burning has to be hauled away at city expense.
- No plastics, glass, aluminum, or garbage please.

 

 The burn pile is a very convenient place to take a lot of our wood waste. It can and will be shut down by the State Health Dept. if we don’t use it properly. Help us monitor it by calling the city office if you notice anyone unloading unauthorized items or get a license plate number & description of the vehicle so it can be reported & removed before burning.

 CAN I PUT UP A FENCE?

Yes, with a few conditions.

If placed on the property line, the adjoining landowners must be in agreement & give signed written permission.

Some height limitations also apply.

Check with city engineer in the event that your property may have an easements for utilities, water, planting, etc.

The Mapleton City Auditor has the conditions, permits & forms for fences - they are also attached.  

The Mapleton City Auditor also approves the fence permits by signing them after assigning the permit numbers.

There is NO fee for a fence permit.  Call the city office at 282-6992 or stop by 651 2nd St for more information.

 DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY PET(S) LICENSED?

Yes,

The fee is $6.00 each for the first 3 dogs and first 3 cats that are maintained at the same address.

After that it will cost $100 to license every additional pet after the first three of each.

 

This fee is per calendar year Jan. to Jan.

Please provide the last rabies vaccination record for each animal.

Failure to license a dog or cat carries a minimum fine of one hundred dollars ($100) or ten (10) hours of community service.

 Can I call the Cass County Sheriff Office directly?

Yes, the dispatch number is 701-451-7660.

The City of Mapleton contracts with Cass County Sheriffs Department.

 WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT LOUD MUSIC, BARKING DOG, LATE LOUD PARTY?

The cities noise ordinance would apply, and is considered a public nuisance.
If you are unable to discuss the matter with the owner you may call the Cass County Sheriff’s office (Casselton dispatch office @ 701-451-7660) to report the nuisance,  a complaint could be filed.

 CAN I HAVE A BON FIRE, RECREATIONAL FIRE OR PORTABLE OUTDOOR FIREPLACES?

"A person shall not kindle or maintain or authorize to be kindled or maintained any open burning unless conducted and approved in accordance with Sections 307.1.1 through 307.5" of the 2012 International Fire Code.

The 2012 International Fire Code was adopted by Mapleton in 2009
